Energetický a průmyslový holding a.s. (EPH), the parent company of EP Power Europe (EPPE), is pleased to announce that the Immission Control Authority of the Helmstedt district in Lower Saxony granted a permit for two wind turbines with a total capacity of around 13 MW, located southwest of Helmstedt, Germany. The permit was issued to Helmstedter Revier GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MIBRAG GmbH (MIBRAG), on 6 November 2023 in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG), following a two-year planning and permitting phase. The realization of the HSR 1 Wind Park project will be carried out by the EPPE subsidiaries MIBRAG and EP New Energies GmbH (EPNE).

This wind park project represents the first step in the transformation of former opencast mines in the Helmstedt area into renewable energy hubs, with a target of up to 470 MW of renewable installed capacity.

EPNE is overseeing the realization of the project on behalf of MIBRAG.

Jan Špringl, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of EP Power Europe states: “I am delighted about the recent approval success and I want to emphasize our company’s dedication to sustainable energy initiatives. This accomplishment is a significant milestone in our broader efforts towards an essential energy transformation.”

Construction work on the former opencast mine site in the Helmstedt mining region is expected to begin in the coming months, and EPNE plans to have the wind park operational in 2025.
